🛰️ What is Aditya-L1?

India's first dedicated solar mission. Launched by ISRO, it carries instruments like ASPEX and MAG to study solar activities from a stable vantage point.

💨 What is Solar Wind?

A constant stream of charged particles (plasma) flowing out from the Sun's corona at speeds up to 800 km/s, carrying the interplanetary magnetic field.

📍 What is L1?

The First Lagrange point, located 1.5 million km from Earth. Here, gravitational forces balance, allowing a spacecraft to "hover" and watch the Sun 24/7.

Solar Wind Plasma

Density in Blue, Speed in Orange. High density + low speed suggests compressed regions.

IMF (Interplanetary Magnetic Field)

Positive Bz is stable; sustained Southward (negative) Bz can trigger geomagnetic storms.

Proton Temperature (eV)

Values above 30 eV indicate high-energy heating events.

IMF Clock Angle Dial

Projection of the IMF vector on the Y-Z plane. North (0°) is quiet; South (180°) is active.

Kp Index Estimator

Kp 1

An estimate of the 3-hour planetary K-index based on current Bz conditions. Kp > 5 signals a geomagnetic storm.

📖 Solar Wind Primer

What is Plasma?

The fourth state of matter — a gas of ions and free electrons. It behaves collectively due to electromagnetic forces.

Speed Classes

Slow wind (~400km/s) from coronal streamers; Fast wind (~700-800km/s) from coronal holes.

🔬 Glossary

Bz
North-South component of the magnetic field. Critical for storm prediction.
CME
Coronal Mass Ejection: A massive burst of solar wind and magnetic field.
nT
Nanotesla: The unit of magnetic field strength in space.

Spectral Analysis (PSD)

Power Spectral Density of magnetic field fluctuations. High power at low frequencies indicates turbulent energy cascade.
